Kyper Disco

Summer 2006 - After four races this season it was established that Kyper had a minor breathing problem; however after a minor operation the good news is that the problem has been completely rectified. Since the wind op' Kyper has been placed in both of his outings.

Kyper Disco's History: Kyper has been with us since 2001, after Nicky spotted him at a 'breeze up' sale in France and bought him instantly for the syndicate. During his first season, Kyper ran twice for NewROG both at Newbury in National Hunt Flat Races (bumpers) where he was beaten by stablemate, Mel in Blue, into second by a very short head first time out and then finished a respectable fifth behind Lord Sam later that month (March 2002) in a particularly hotly contested race. The 2002-2003 season saw Kyper graduate to hurdles and he ran three times for NewROG. First time out at the Hennessy Meeting at Newbury, Kyper thrilled all of his owners by finishing third, only two lengths behind Rhinestone Cowboy (Far Horizon being 2nd) in a seriously competitive novices' hurdle race. Our second outing was at Fontwell on bottomless ground where Kyper was made to make all the running by the rest of the field and after leading the entire way round we were beaten on the 'nod' by the shortest of heads in a photo-finish. Unlucky wasn't the word for it! Kyper's final race of the season was at Folkestone over the longer trip of 2.5 miles on nearly un-raceable ground.

The extremely slow pace, coupled with barely raceable conditions meant that we did not get placed; in fact after the race we discovered that Kyper had picked up a knee injury during the race. To reduce the risk of Kyper picking up further knee problems and to ensure a continued racing career it was decided to pin the knee and therefore Kyper was given 2003-2004 off. The great news is that extensive and frequent x-rays have shown that Kyper's knee has healed better than anyone could have hoped for and this was further confirmed when Kyper came out of every single one of his races last season sound.
