About us
Formed
in 1996, Newbury Racehorse Owners Group has gone from strength to strength;
starting with just one horse, Lakefield Leader, we now boast
of two National Hunt racehorses per season and one Flat horse. In fact
over the past decade we have been lucky enough to have had a huge array
of success, especially thanks to Chapeltown who still remains
the course recorder holder at Newbury Racecourse over 2 miles 3 furlongs
(hurdles) and now, Papini, who made it all the way to the Cheltenham
Festival twice in three years.For this 2007-2008 National Hunt season Papini still remains with us as does
our youngster, Geneva Bay who as
of yet is unraced however the intention is to send him hurdling straight
away this season.
The
way the syndicate runs...
Management: As
the racing manager, I am the main point of contact between the trainer
and the syndicate owners; I aim to provide detailed and up to date reports
on the horses including race entries and race reports. I am also lucky
enough to ride the syndicate's horses 'at home' which further enables
me to give even more accurate progress reports on the horses. The syndicate
is also over seen by a Committee, working on all the owners' behalves
and consists of the trainer, the racing manager (myself) and three owners.
In this way the owners are able to have a keen involvement in all aspects
of the management of NewROG, if they so wish, and are paramount in the
smooth running of the syndicate. The three owner members are approved
and appointed onto the Committee by all the owners.
Updates: Members are kept up-to-date via weekly e-mails; by calling the Actionline
to listen to the weekly (if not more frequently) updated message; via
newsletters; by visiting the NewROG website to view photos; or by calling
me in person to discuss the horses or any aspect of the running of the
syndicate. We also have three stable visits per season (usually September,
November and April) so that members are able to gauge the horses' progress;
thefinal stable visit of the year is always followed byour famous
Annual Lunch!
Race
Days: When the horses run, the usual allocation of 6 complimentary
owners' badges are allocated on a random basis with
other owners being able to purchase additional badges at a reduced rate
at most racecourses. Members can also benefit from a £2 discount
on Members' badges at all of Newbury Racecourse's fixtures (except Hennessy
Gold Cup Meeting). I do also try and organise complimentary hospitality
at Newbury Racecourse, at least once a season, if at all possible.
Cost: For the NH syndicate the inclusive price per season includes all training,
insurance and management costs as well as the purchase price of the
share (only applicable for the first season) and is paid as a one-off
payment at the start of the season. Any prize money won (after date
of joining) or unused money (some elements of the fee are based on budget
figures) is paid back at the end of the season in the form of a dividend
cheque. Also at the end of NH NewROG season each owner is entitled to
a vote to determine the future of the horse, i.e., to keep the horse
in training for following season or to send him to a suitable auction
and for the sale proceeds to be divided equally amongst all of his shareholders;
the majority vote determines the horse's future. Owners are entitled
to discontinue their involvement with the syndicate by putting their
share up for re-sale at the end of the season. If you are interested in becoming a
member of NewROG, I would only be too happy to send you more details
so do please contact me (sasha@newrog.co.uk, Mobile: 07796 990395).
